What hurt Jeff Gordon's chances of winning the Brickyard?

Who thinks Jeff Gordon, being the type of patient and conservative driver he is, that he was holding back at Indy? Honestly, it doesn't matter if Jeff Gordon IS my favorite favorite driver, he had a fast car all weekend. He was in the top 5 ALL through practice, had an average of 2 for position on the charts, and even finally lead a practice session (He hasn't lead that much this year). More to the point, don't you believe he was being conservative? Looking at what Jimmie said about Gordon's tires from his view and Gordon's actual tires, I think Gordon just wanted a good Top-5 finish. I freakin' hated that so much! That's what I don't like about him!! Be more like Sr. or Busch...But, I think 81 wins is due to his current personality. He had a good car all weekend, but darn it he didn't win.... What do you think?
