Do home bug bombs actually work?

I am in a garden apartment and it is pretty old. I'm pretty sure the foundation is cracked and now that it is summer there are a bunch of disgusting ear wigs inside. Also tons of spiders, I just swept my kitchen and had to kill FIVE spiders!!! Which is so horrible to me considering I have arachnophobia. I also want to organize my cabinets but am petrified to because I don't want spiders to come rushing out. I know it sounds stupid but I'm just scared to death of them. So I really want to try the home bug bombs but does anyone know if they actually work? And what is the best position to place them? We have radiators for heating and that is where I usually see them. Is it safe to place them near there?
