Anyone know any statistics on ethanol?

I am trying to figure out what is more efficient, corn used to make ethanol or used as food? One acre of corn could provide ____ joules of energy if used for ethanol as opposed to one acre of corn could provide ____ joules of energy if consumed by humans. Does anyone know where I could find statistics like that?
